Sage Against the Machine No. 1
May 14, 2025
Big 2024 energy coming in hot! I try to live in the seasons (not the years) but this January feels like the arrival of a new season. Maybe it's because it's Jan 9th and none of the lakes in Minnesota are frozen yet? Honestly, as the official 6am dog walker, I'm not mad about it 🤷♀️
I have made growing my business my priority in Q1 and spending lots of time in my favorite coffee shop, Spyhouse in NE Minneapolis. Their seasonal drink was called Sage Against the Machine (which I have adopted as my mantra for the year #sageagainstthemachine).
A blend of espresso, whole milk, sage oil, and caramel. An unexpected but delightful combination. It encompasses how I want to show up in the world and in the cannabis space. Unexpected but delightful! If you are looking to show up in that same way, let's find a project to work on together! #noassholes
Last year was a big growing and learning year. One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is what I am most excited about this month! My signature online course: CANNABASICS!
I have taken my years of experience and the depth of knowledge I have gained from my relationships with Industry Experts in the cannabis world and distilled it into 5 modules that break things down into easily digestible bites.
With a live weekly coaching session, it is the perfect way to uplevel cannabis knowledge in a fun and friendly environment. It launches next week on Jan 17th and is a great way to explore Sober January, get foundational knowledge to enter the cannabis space, or optimize personal and family wellness.
I am so thankful to all the amazing people that had an impact on my life in 2023. I know what 2024 has in store for us, and it's really good :)
Below are a few things I wanted to share that made an impact on me this week.
3 things are getting me through January
The return of Vanderpump Rules. Yes, it is January 30th, which seems like a long time away, but if you go back and rewatch all of season 10 (plus the reunion and the BTS), you can watch 2 a day and have a new perspective on #scandovol and approach the new season with a fresh set of eyes.
Mel Robbins' "best year yet" workbook. I posted on my Instagram @sageadvice.mn about starting off the year with this and had so many people in my DMs saying they are doing the same! Coupled with her podcast, this is an excellent resource to help find some guidance and guardrails in 2024.
Soups! The amazing women of Ashe Lounge are hosting a souperbowl party. Technically the event is on Feb 10th (in Detroit) but I am working on perfecting my wild rice soup recipe in the month of January!
2 great conversations I had
Kevin Jodrey joined Sage Advice: Community Education-KNOWLEDGE BUILDING this week to kick off our focus on genetics and breeding. He shared his theory of how cannabis evolves not just according to its environment but also according to how the people evolve. A very engaging and enlightening conversation.
Group coaching in Sage Advice: Community Education-PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT focused on Relationship Building and Networking. We used the books "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (Highly, lol) and The Five Love Languages to develop a system for engaging people authentically and effectively. We got a number of other great recommendations for personal development materials such as:
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson - Jude Croyle
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown - Brittany Weichel
Law of Attraction by Jeffrey Floyd - Jeordin Wiley
Zero to one by Peter Thiel - Brooks Harwell
1 piece of SAGE ADVICE
I received from Eric Rosen (Force Brands)
Everyone must have two pockets so that he can reach into one or the other according to his needs. In his right pocket are to be the words, “For my sake was the world created,” and in his left pocket, “I am dust and ashes” (quoted in The Spirituality of Imperfection, p. 60).
We each have gifts to give the world. We must find those gifts and share them. We must also remember where those gifts came from and that at any moment they can be taken away. Like so many things in life, self-esteem needs to be balanced. The balance is between humility and pride.
Two pockets: one for esteem, the other for humility.
Have a wonderful week. Much love đź’šđź’šđź’š
Be a little rebellious, a little wise.
